Re-Reading Books – Yay or Nay?

Re-reading familiar books can be lots of fun. But for some people, it’s just not something they do. Whether they think that it’s wasting time where they could be getting through more of their TBR pile, or they just can’t be bothered. I love re-reading books. Re-reading familiar books can be lots of fun. But for some people, it’s just not something they do. Whether they think that it’s wasting time where they could be getting through more of their TBR pile, or they just can’t be bothered.

I love re-reading books. I find that if I’m going through a reading slump it can help me get back into the habit if reading. Or if I just want something cosy and familiar, it can be rather comforting.

Here’s a quick list of some books that I have re-read recently, or want to re-read soon:

1 – Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend

I re-read the first book in this  series recently, as the fourth book in the series is due out at the end of next year (it was due at the end of last year, but it seems to keep getting set back). I love this middle grade fantasy series. It’s so comforting for me, it’s a beautiful world full of fun and whimsy. It’s definitely something I’d recommend to any lovers of fantasy or Middle grade fiction. The characters are so loveable, and I wish I could go on an adventure with Jupiter North!

2 – Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger

This is a young adult paranormal, steampunk fantasy set in a boarding school in Victorian England,  which trains young girls to becomes spies and assassins.

I had a lot of fun reading this series the first time. I re-read it a few years ago, and can’t wait to get back into the world. The characters are so heart-warming, and the adventures are full of fun. I really want to read this series again soon!

3 – The Luner Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I’m currently in the middle of a re-read of this series. I love the characters and the intermingling of fairytale retellings. This series follows cyborg Cinderella, spaceship pilot Little Red Riding Hood, Lunar alien Rapunzel, and Lunar alien princess Snow White.

I think there is a lot of joy in this series. Its fun and silly at times, but the characters and their relationships and challenges are really worth the time. It is YA, so it’s not too hard-hitting, but it’s one of the books that really got me to try reading sci-fi.

4 – Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

I read this book a couple, of years ago, and I found the mystery of it to be exhilarating.  I want to re-read this book to find out if the excitement returns now I know how it ends. Also, I don’t remember a lot about the plot after such a long time, so I think I’m ready for it now that it’s not too fresh for me.

This is a contemporary mystery set in Australia, following several different families, and how they are all connected to a particular incident. This book starts at the end, and flashes back to how all the characters met and you get to work out along the way who is responsible for the murder.

5 – The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

So I read the first book in this series a couple of years ago, but when I went to read the second one, I had no idea what was going on. I probably waited too long between books.  Therefore I’m thinking I’d like to re-read the first one just to help me get back into the series.

I remember the first book being quite mysterious, and the characters being super interesting with their different powers.

This is set in a world where they have seasons of extreme weather which destroys cities and causes terrible harm. We follow one character as she goes after her husband who has murdered their son, and kidnapped their daughter. This leads to a huge adventure and a lot of trouble.

I really enjoyed the mystery in this book, and found it to be really enjoyable. I’m looking forward to finally continuing the series.

6 – Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger

This is another series that I need to re-read in order to catch up on the rest of the series. I have re-read the first book last year, and need to get back to the second. After that, the rest of the series will be new to me.

This is set in a fantasy world, following a telepath called Sophie, who discovers that she is an elf who was adopted by humans. She now returns to the elven world and starts school to learn to control her powers.

For a middle grade series, I have found this one to be quite enjoyable. I’ve  heard that the series develops really well, and I’m excited to find out more about this magical world. I think this series has about eight books at the moment, I’m not sure if it’s continuing further than that.

So those are some books that I have enjoyed and recommend if you want books you can go back to time and again.

Do you enjoy re-reading?? What have you re-read recently?? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time,

Love, Bobbi. Xx.

Today I delivered 6 boxes of books to an English readers book sale, I don’t reread unless it is something inspirational and uplifting, philosophical. I tried rereading my favourite books and it was disappointing, because the excitement of anticipation just wasn’t there. I think I need the element of the unknown to be present.

That’s understandable. I’ve been disappointed by re-reading books before too. I try not to do it very often, because I’d like to explore as many new stories as possible. But sometimes I just get excited about visiting something familiar and comforting.
