General Reading Update.

Last week I finally finished reading a book. It was Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger. I’ve  read this series a couple of times before and I always love it. The characters are amazing, the plot is really enjoyable, and it’s just really great fun the whole time.

I’m  so glad I finished reading this book. It’s the only book that I’ve  managed to start and finish this year. I’ve started several other books, and I finished one book right at the beginning of the year, but I had started that back in September.

Basically, I just feel really happy that I’ve  finally managed to complete a book, and I’m  hoping that it will encourage me to keep up with my reading a little more, and pick up the reading pace.

I’m currently in the middle of five other books, but I’m not very far in any of them at all.

I’m still reading The Bear and the Nightingale. I’m about half way through that book. It’s not fascinating me, but it’s enjoyable. Definitely quite slow at the beginning. I’m not a huge fan of stories based around religion. That’s just not my jam. But the magic and the creatures are interesting. We’ve only just had mention of “the bear” in the story, but still no sign of “the nightingale”.

Anyway, it’s fun, but I don’t think it will be one of my favourites of the year. I’m really hoping I can just sit down with this book a few times over the next couple of weeks and finally finish it.

I’m also still reading Keeper of the Lost Cities: Exile. I’m maybe a quarter of the way through this book. It’s not got to the main plot yet I don’t think, but I do enjoy the characters in this series. The writing is definitely quite simplistic, but that’s not surprising as it’s a middle grade series. I’m enjoying reading this book, and I want to take my time over it, so it might take me a while to complete.

I haven’t read a lot more of Truly Devious since my last update. I’m still at the part where the protagonist is arriving at the boarding school and settling into her new room. So, considering I haven’t read very much of this book (and haven’t picked it up for a few weeks), I don’t currently have any strong opinions about it yet.

I can’t remember if I mentioned that I’m re-reading Caraval. This series has become quite popular in the BookTube community recently. I think there is a spin-off series set in the same world, which is still coming out with new books. Anyway, I’m re-reading this book so I can finally get around to reading the final book in the series.

I’m not loving this book. I’ve read it before, but I don’t really remember the plot. My issue with this book is the writing. It’s very simplistic. But I am aware that this book is Stephanie Garber’s debut novel, so I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt and see if her writing improves over time.

I do like the magic in this world. I’m enjoying the unreliability of Caraval as a setting. You literally can’t trust anything you see, or anything anyone says. It’s all theatrics, but also it creates so much emotion for the characters, because to them the whole thing feels so real.

I really want to continue with this series just so I can complete it. I have had the complete series for years. I think I got the final book as soon as it was released, but then never picked it up, which is a shame. Anyway, I want to find out what happens at the end of the series, because at the beginning of this book we discover that the Scarlett is betrothed to a Count who she has never met, and her father is emotionally and physically abusing Scarlett and her sister, Donatella. So I’m keen to find out if going to Caraval a couple of times makes a difference to any of that.

I’m also reading The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. I started this books a couple of weeks ago. I’m only a couple of chapters into the book, but so far I have enjoyed what I’ve read. It’s funny, and the characters are interesting. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun to read this book.

So those are all the books that I’m currently reading. There are a few books that’s are peaking my interest at the moment, but I think I’ll do a seperate post about those, as this is getting quite long now.

What are you reading at the moment? Are you enjoying it??

Until next time,
Love, Bobbi. Xx.
