This has been a bit of a funny month for reading. At the beginning I was hardly reading anything, then in the final week and a half I feel like I read a lot.

I finally finished reading Part 1 of Words of Radiance (in the UK editions the books in this series come in two parts because the books are so long, and, I guess, so they can steal more money from us). So I’m roughly half way through the entire book, and I hope to get through the second part in December. I’m only going to count them as one book because it is technically the same book, and was originally published together.

Can I also add that I’m so upset about the novella between Words of Radiance and Oathbringer. It is only available in hardback, but I have the rest of the series in paperback! It’s so incredibly frustrating. It’s bad enough that I have Way of Kings in a complete book and the rest of the series comes as two books. I’m also frustrated because I’ll probably be buying the new releases in hardback once I catch up with the series.

Anyway, I started Words of Radiance at the end of August or the beginning of September, I don’t really remember. I just feel like I’ve been reading this book forever. The initial plan was that my brother and I were buddy reading it, and would consistently read 20 pages every day. I pretty much didn’t stick to that for a single day, and fell incredibly behind.

My brother managed to finish the entire book last week, and I’m so proud of him. To be honest, we both read Way of Kings at the beginning of this year in only two months. Before this year my brother hardly read any books, preferring to read manga. And now he has read more then ten books this year, including really long ones like this.

I’m determined to complete Words of Radience by the end of 2023. I’ve been enjoying it so far. It has been quite slow throughout the middle of the first part, but the last 100-200 pages were more exciting. My brother tells me that the next 100 pages or so are really good, and then there is an interlude that he didn’t enjoy.

I personally find that Brandon Sanderson’s books always take me forever to read. I usually really enjoy the stories, but they can be quite slow, and then a lot will happen in the last few chapters. I still want to read more of his books, I just find them quite frustrating and time consuming.

After that I went back to finishing my re-read of Scarlet by Marissa Meyer. This is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles series, and I think this was my third time reading it.

I remember first reading it in 2013 or 2014, and found the beginning to be quite slow for me, but then the second half really picked up once they all started travelling around.

On this particular re-read I found it so quick to get through. That could just be because I knew the story, or more likely because it’s YA and the font is bigger, and I was comparing it with Words of Radiance. Lol.

I really enjoyed this story, and I want to continue with the rest of the series at the beginning of next year. The characters are so good, I love the banter between them. It’s just so comforting to return to this story and see those characters and locations again.

This series really made Sci-Fi more appealing to me when I was younger because it wasn’t too complicated to understand. I think it’s really good for people who want to get into Sci-Fi or just want a different kind of fairytale retelling.

I know I only finished two books this month, but I haven’t finished a single book since August, so I was quite pleased with how it went, especially as I completed them both in the same week.

I’ll do another post about my reading plans for December soon. In the meantime, let me know how your reading is going recently? Have you enjoyed what you’ve read?

Until next time,

Love, Bobbi. Xx
