Update / Where I’ve Been.

Firstly I want to apologise for disappearing for a couple of months. I was kind of busy for a while, and that interrupted my reading, but also I’ve  been reading a book that is taking me forever to get through, so I’ve been reading the same book for ages and not getting anywhere with it…

Firstly I want to apologise for disappearing for a couple of months. I was kind of busy for a while, and that interrupted my reading, but also I’ve  been reading a book that is taking me forever to get through, so I’ve been reading the same book for ages and not getting anywhere with it (or so it feels).

At the end of September / the beginning of October I went on holiday for two weeks. I went to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Disneyland California, and San Fransisco (little road trip with my parents). I had a really good time, but I was so busy every day that I didn’t have much energy for reading. It was a wonderful experience, I miss travelling so much. It was my first trip out of the country since before the pandemic, so it was really quite special for me.

However, this was another big interruption for my reading habit

I’ve been back since the 7th of October, and still I haven’t read much. My brother and I started buddy reading Words of Radiance (book two of the Stormlight Archives) by Brandon Sanderson at the start of September, with the intention of reading twenty pages every day for two months in order to finish it without too much pressure.

Basically, I stuck to that reading goal for maybe two days, and then I’ve been getting behind ever since. So where he is on page 700 or something, I’m only on page 380.

I find this book to be a really dense read as well, so where I’m only reading a few pages a day, I’m reading at half the speed I normally would with most other books. This has been a bit off-putting for me, and I think that’s part of the reason I’ve not been putting much effort into it. Which is a shame really, because I am enjoying the story, it’s just quite slow-paced.

Another book I have been reading over this time period is Scarlet (the second book in the Lunar Chrinicles series) by Merissa Meyer. This is a re-read for me, so I’m quite enjoying it. I find it an easy read, partly because I already know the story, but also because it is a YA book, and they’re always quite gentle in their writing styles.

I know I need to pick up my daily reading habit, but I have come to the conclusion over the past week or so that my reading has been greatly hindered since I stopped commuting in the summer of 2022. Maybe the cure for this would be a new job, but also that is way too much hassle for right now.

I’d be happy with reading at home, but there are so many distractions. I work ten hours a day, four days a week, so on my off day I’m thinking I might start taking myself to a cafe for lunch or something, and just reading for an hour or so. It might help, even if I didn’t do it every week.

I have had the thought that I need to look into making a schedule for myself on non-work days. It would help me to fit in more time for reading, blogging, and creative hobbies (which I’ve been thinking about getting back into). It’s just a thought, but when I’ve tried making schedules for myself in the past I often don’t stick to them. I really need to build some better habits. Haha!

Do you have any tips on re-building better habits? What have you been reading lately?

Until next time,

Love, Bobbi. Xx.
