Reading Plans for 2023

Every year I give myself about ten reading goals, and twelve books I want to prioritise for that year. In 2022 I have only finished 13 books. Most years I read 35-50 books, so this year feels realy disappointing. I know it isn’t finished, and I still have time to read more, but I don’t…

Every year I give myself about ten reading goals, and twelve books I want to prioritise for that year.

In 2022 I have only finished 13 books. Most years I read 35-50 books, so this year feels realy disappointing. I know it isn’t finished, and I still have time to read more, but I don’t know how much I actually want to read anymore.

I used to be obsessed with reading. I would track the number of pages I read each day, I’d log it in a spreadsheet so I knew exactly how behind I was getting. But this year has so many weeks where I have just had zero pages read. This six month reading slump, which I’m not sure is over, has completely messed up my identity.

Being a reader is a huge part of who I am. Well, it was. Now I don’t know who I am anymore. Do I still need to make reading goals if I’m not obsessive about my reading?

Even so, there are twelve books that I would like to read in the next year. Some of them I had read before, others I have had on my shelf for years, and some are brand new. But here they are:

1 – (re-read) The Hobbit
2 – The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
3 – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
4 – The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
5 – (re-read) Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend
6 – (re-read) Wundersmith by Jessica Townsend
7 – (re-read) Hollowpox by Jessica Townsend
8 – Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
9 – Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Devin
10 – When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill
11 – Beyond the Wand by Tom Felton
12 – I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

First of all I have to say, no, I have not read the LotR series before, or seen the movies. But I am curious about it, and I have become more interested in adult fantasy books over the past few years.

All of these books have interested me recently. The last four are books that I’ve bought in the last couple of months as well. I think if I have something to aim for I might have more chance of reading something, anything at all. I don’t want to completely lose interest in reading. I just don’t know how to get back into a habit about which I was once obsessed.

Before this post gets too long, I’m going to sign off. But let me know if you’ve read any of these books before, and let me know what you think of them. Also let me know if you have any reading goals for the coming year, maybe you can inspire me back into having a reading habit,

Until next time,
Love, Bobbi. Xx.
